S.M.A.S.H iRacing: All 3 Series Head to North Wilkesboro This Weekend

By S.M.A.S.H — April 16, 2026

North Wilkesboro is next, and this weekend every major S.M.A.S.H division rolls into one of the toughest short tracks on the schedule.

The East Coast Series, O’Reilly Series, and Cup Series are all set to take on North Wilkesboro, and this is the kind of place that can tighten a points fight or blow one wide open in a single night. It is a track built on rhythm, patience, and racecraft, but it also has a way of turning up the pressure fast once the field gets packed in. That is what makes this weekend important.

With all three series hitting the same short track, every points leader, every contender, and every driver trying to gain ground is stepping into a race weekend where mistakes will cost more than usual.

A Real Short-Track Test

North Wilkesboro does not reward lazy driving.

It rewards discipline. It rewards drivers who can manage the corners, protect track position, and stay composed when the pressure starts building. This is not a place where drivers can rely on open space and long straightaways to recover from mistakes. Once the field closes in, everything gets tighter.

That is why this track matters so much in a championship season.

Short-track racing exposes who can really handle traffic, who can stay patient over a run, and who starts forcing the issue when things stop going their way. North Wilkesboro will test all of that.

Points Leaders Entering North Wilkesboro

East Coast Series

  1. Jonny Rapp — 140

  2. Randy Bechdel — 115

  3. Jay Szala — 99

O’Reilly Series

  1. Lee Richardson IV — 116

  2. Scott Drost — 112

  3. Tristan Alexander — 109

Cup Series

  1. Jesse R Sampson — 119

  2. Austin Gum — 94

  3. Chris Trammell — 90

East Coast Series Comes In With Jonny Rapp on Top

The East Coast Series enters the weekend with Jonny Rapp holding the points lead at 140. Randy Bechdel sits second with 115, and Jay Szala rounds out the top three with 99.

That gives the East Coast standings a clear pressure point heading into Wilkesboro.

Rapp has the edge, but it is not safe enough to breathe easy at a short track like this. Bechdel is close enough to make a strong night matter, and Szala is still in range if things tighten up in front of him. One clean run could strengthen the lead. One bad night could pull the whole thing back together.

That is what makes Wilkesboro dangerous for the points leader.

O’Reilly Series Fight Is Tight at the Top

The O’Reilly Series may have one of the tightest battles of the weekend.

Lee Richardson IV leads the standings with 116 points, but Scott Drost is right behind him with 112. Tristan Alexander is also very much in the fight at 109.

That is only a seven-point spread from first to third.

At a short track, that kind of gap can disappear fast.

The O’Reilly Series has been competitive all season, and North Wilkesboro feels like the kind of track that could shift the order in a hurry. A win here would mean a lot. Even a few finishing positions could have a major effect on how the standings look coming out of the weekend.

Cup Series Leader Has a Little Room, But Not Much

In the Cup Series, Jesse R Sampson leads the way with 119 points. Austin Gum sits second with 94, and Chris Trammell is third with 90.

That gives Sampson some breathing room, but not enough to take anything lightly.

Wilkesboro is exactly the kind of track where a points lead can start shrinking if a driver gets caught in trouble, loses track position, or spends the night fighting the wrong battle. Gum and Trammell both have a chance to gain ground if they can stay clean and put together a strong run, and both know a short-track weekend is a good place to put pressure back on the leader.

Why This Weekend Matters Across the Board

This is one of those weekends where every series should feel the pressure.

The East Coast Series has a leader trying to hold control with challengers close enough to make it uncomfortable. The O’Reilly Series has a fight at the top that is nearly too close to call. The Cup Series has a leader with a little room, but not enough to survive a rough night without consequences.

That is what makes North Wilkesboro such a big stop on the calendar.

It is not just another race. It is a short-track pressure test for everybody still thinking about championships.

Final Word

S.M.A.S.H is heading into one of the most important weekends of the season so far.

All three series will take on North Wilkesboro, and every one of them has something real on the line. The points battles are tightening, the track will punish mistakes, and the drivers who leave this weekend with momentum will have earned it the hard way.

North Wilkesboro does not care about hype.

It cares about who can handle the pressure when the racing gets tight.
