The S.M.A.S.H Super Late Model Series returns Sunday night as drivers head to
Southern National Motorsports Park for Round 4 of the inaugural season.
After three races, the championship picture is beginning to take shape. The opening stretch has already delivered multiple winners, clean short-track racing, and a points battle that is tightening up at the front.
Now the series moves to Southern National for another 75-lap short-track fight where speed alone will not be enough.
Drivers will need patience, control, and discipline over the full race distance. With limited room to make mistakes, Southern National is the kind of track that can reward a smooth driver just as much as a fast one. One bad corner, one missed entry, or one over-aggressive move can change an entire night.
With 75 laps scheduled, the field will have to balance early-race survival with late-race aggression if they want to leave Round 4 with a strong finish.
A Championship Fight Taking Shape
Through the first three rounds, Braxton DeWeese remains the driver everyone is chasing.
DeWeese enters Southern National as the current points leader with 122 points, holding a narrow advantage at the top of the standings. After winning the first two races of the season, the No. 15 has already proven he can win in the Super Late Model Series and maintain championship-level consistency.
But the gap is no longer comfortable.
Jeffrey Stanton sits second with 117 points, just five points behind DeWeese after his Round 3 victory at Lanier National Speedway. Stanton had shown speed early in the season, and at Lanier he turned that speed into a win. That victory immediately pulled him closer in the championship fight and made Southern National even more important.
The battle up front is simple.
DeWeese still leads.
Stanton is coming.
And Round 4 could tighten the championship even more.
Ellis Still in the Hunt
Behind the top two, Kasey Ellis remains third in the standings with 102 points, only 20 points out of the lead.
Ellis has been one of the strongest early-season contenders and continues to keep himself inside the championship conversation. With the season still young, a strong run at Southern National could pull the No. 35 closer to both DeWeese and Stanton.
That makes Round 4 a major opportunity.
If Ellis can leave Southern National with another solid points night, the championship battle could become a three-driver fight heading deeper into the schedule.
The Middle of the Standings Gets Tight
While the top three have started to separate themselves, the fight behind them is packed close together.
Cody O’Connor enters Round 4 fourth in points with 68, followed closely by Darren Higgins with 66. Behind them, David Palmer and Daryl Griffin are tied with 62 points, while Jacob Brooks sits just behind at 60.
That group is separated by only a handful of points.
One good finish could move a driver several spots forward.
One bad night could drop them back just as quickly.
Southern National will not only matter for the championship lead. It will also be a major race for the drivers trying to establish themselves inside the top five and keep building momentum before the second half of the season.
What to Watch
Several storylines will be worth watching throughout Sunday night’s event:
Can Braxton DeWeese protect the points lead?
Can Jeffrey Stanton carry his Lanier momentum into Southern National?
Will Kasey Ellis close the gap and keep pressure on the top two?
Which driver from the tight mid-pack battle can break through with a strong finish?
Will Southern National reward patience, or will late-race aggression decide the outcome?
The Super Late Model Series has already shown that clean execution matters. These races are short enough to stay intense, but long enough for mistakes to add up.
At Southern National, drivers will have to stay focused from the green flag to the checkered flag.
