The S.M.A.S.H iRacing Super Late Model Series reached the halfway point of its championship season Sunday night at Southern National Motorsports Park, and Braxton DeWeese made sure Round 4 belonged to him from start to finish.
DeWeese started on the pole, controlled the race, and led all 75 laps on his way to another statement victory in the Super Late Model Series.
At a track where rhythm, patience, and short-track discipline matter every lap, DeWeese never gave the field a real opening.
Round 4 was the halfway mark.
DeWeese treated it like a championship checkpoint.
DeWeese Controls the Night
Southern National is not a place where drivers can afford to get careless.
The tight short-track layout puts pressure on every corner, every restart, and every lap in traffic. With the Super Late Models, one mistake can quickly turn a strong run into a long night.
DeWeese avoided that completely.
From the drop of the green flag, the No. 15 set the pace and never gave up control. He led every lap, kept the race in his hands, and delivered the kind of complete performance that matters when a championship battle starts moving into the second half of the schedule.
It was not just a win.
It was a message.
Tollison Grabs Runner-Up Finish
Barry Tollison Jr put together a strong night of his own, finishing second after starting third.
Tollison also showed speed throughout the race, recording the fastest race lap of the event with a 14.670-second lap. While DeWeese controlled the lead, Tollison stayed in the fight and came away with a strong runner-up finish at one of the most important points of the season.
A second-place finish at the halfway mark gives Tollison momentum as the series moves into the final four races.
Stanton Charges to the Podium
Jeffrey Stanton started deeper in the field but worked his way forward to finish third.
After starting ninth, Stanton climbed into the podium and picked up an important result for the championship picture. On a night where passing was not easy and track position mattered, Stanton’s drive through the field was one of the biggest stories of the race.
He did not lead laps.
He did not control the race.
But he did what championship contenders have to do.
He recovered, moved forward, and left Southern National with a podium finish.
Top Five Finishers
Braxton DeWeese — No. 15
Barry Tollison Jr — No. 67
Jeffrey Stanton — No. 61
Cody O’Connor — No. 57
Kasey Ellis — No. 35
Cody O’Connor came home fourth after a steady run inside the top five, while Kasey Ellis rounded out the top five after completing 74 laps.
With the season now halfway complete, every one of these finishes carries more weight.
Race Notes
Round 4 featured 10 drivers and went the full 75-lap distance.
The race saw only one caution for four laps, keeping much of the event focused on long-run pace, consistency, and managing the short-track rhythm. There were no lead changes, with DeWeese leading every lap from the pole.
Barry Tollison Jr recorded the fastest lap of the race, while DeWeese delivered the most complete overall performance by controlling the field from start to finish.
Halfway to the Championship
The first half of the Super Late Model season is now complete.
Four races are in the books.
Four races remain.
That means the championship fight now enters a different stage. Early-season mistakes become harder to overcome. Strong finishes become more important. Every position gained or lost can change the direction of the points battle.
Southern National was not just another race.
It was the halfway mark.
And DeWeese made the most of it.
Final Word
Braxton DeWeese came into Southern National with speed, control, and the championship picture in mind.
He left with a dominant Round 4 victory.
Barry Tollison Jr showed race-winning pace and came away second. Jeffrey Stanton fought forward from ninth to finish third. Cody O’Connor and Kasey Ellis completed a strong top five as the Super Late Model Series now turns toward the second half of the season.
The road to the championship is getting shorter.
The pressure is getting heavier.
And after Southern National, DeWeese has made it clear he is not backing down.
